Adam made us aware of his present in Iraq through our recent contact email Post2778appletonvfw.org address. Our post's has always supported the local community military units during their deployment periods. He has recent returned to the states at North Carolina his current base. Special Note: Our Post's Military Unit Contact Person: Albert Kudrle - his e mail address is at - kudrle@sbcglobal.net +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Adam's recent email update is attached below: June 13, 2010 To Members of the Appleton's VFW Post 2778, Comrades, I am finally able to respond to your email. First, thank you for the offer of help. It’s much appreciated. This war is very different than Desert Storm in that we have a much better support system at our bases. At least the more secure bases. We have a BX/PX here that gives us the opportunity to get things we need. So I really haven’t needed to rely on items sent from the states like in the past. Second, and more importantly, I’m back in the states! Due to the Obama draw down, almost my entire unit has been sent home. I am currently at my base in North Carolina. I arrived here on Memorial Day. We are on two weeks reconstitution time right now, and then I will be heading back to Wisconsin. I hope to arrive before or on Fathers Day. Do not know if I’m flying in to Appleton or driving at this time. I will be extremely happy to be home! I can give you a little background on what my job was in Iraq. I was stationed at Kirkuk Regional Air Base. Which is in northern Iraq. It was a joint base with Air Force, Army and Navy there. I’m a Technical Sergeant with the Security Forces(MP) for the Air Force. My job was to protect the base. We didn’t have any attacks by individuals, but we were rocket attacked about once a week. I worked 12 hour mid shifts. It was cool and rainy from the time I arrived until about May 5th, then it got dry and very hot. It was better to be working nights to avoid the heat of the day, but it was still very hot made worse by wearing all the gear/body armor we have to. We lived in modular buildings that housed about 64 people per building. Four to five men per room. I had three other sergeants in my room. Great roommates! We had a bathroom attached to the end of the building. It had five shower stalls. The living conditions were better than Desert Storm, so no complaints here. If any members want to email me, that’s fine. I do have family in the Appleton area. My parents live on Rock Road in the Town of Ellington, about 7 miles northwest of Appleton. John and JoAnn Reichwald. I will try to be at our next meeting after my return. It would be good to see you all and I can answer any questions you might have. Thanks, Adam Reichwald =============================
